United Way of Connecticut 211 Child Care has released a new portal for child care providers with the goal of giving families better access to child care information.

Finding quality and affordable child care has become one of the biggest challenges that mothers and fathers can face. In fact, this is one of the reasons a lot of people say they don’t go back to the workforce even though we know there are a lot of jobs available. Without adequate child care, many parents simply cannot work.

A recent study by the CT Collective for Women and Girls found that one in three families in our state could not find daycare during the pandemic. As a result, women are four times more likely to leave the workforce than men, and in families where a parent has had to leave to stay home with the children, 76% were women. This could have a significant impact on our economy. Even if 1% of women leave the workforce for a year, it could cost the Connecticut economy $ 150 million.

And they can change their program profiles, so we can get real-time updates, which is an amazing resource for families. the provider has a new baby opening that just took place today. They don’t need to wait for us to update their profile online, they can enter themselves, they can change their status, they can let us know how many openings they have, and for what groups of age families can access real-time information. Dan: “We’ve talked about it a lot here on the news that the lack of child care is one of the main reasons so many people have left the workforce – especially women. So how do you think the child care issue can solve the employment issue in our state as well? “

Sutera: “They are essential, they go hand in hand, when the pandemic, you know, was in its throes and when the peaks of programs were close, we didn’t even really have a lot of programs that we could refer families to. Then when daycares followed for the state of Connecticut, all the programs that remained open, especially for essential workers, first responders, and front-line hospital staff. That was our priority. So all these families, you know, a lot of them have left the workforce. Now families, you know, have to get back to what they have to reorient their children, have to reconnect, with new caregivers, they have to put in place schedules, you know, a really big challenge for our families who work traditional hours, you know, second shift, third weekend shift trying to find child care p to meet these needs. You know, the Early Years Office and the State of Connecticut are working very hard to support providers, giving them access to financial stabilization grants, so that they can stay op fr, reopen and take care of these children. with an emphasis on non-traditional.
